Yiqiao Town lies in southern Xiaoshan, Hangzhou, at the confluence of the Qiantang, Puyang and Fuchun rivers. Historically known as a “living-water wharf”, it is a thousand-year-old trading town that grew on water transport. The town covers about 58 km² and administers 21 villages and 3 communities. Its hardware industry was not built from scratch: after reform and opening-up, township collective enterprises and family workshops scaled up steadily on export orders. In 2013, the China National Light Industry Council and China Hardware Products Association awarded Yiqiao the title “China Hardware (Components) Town”; in 2014, the China Hardware Products Association added “China Tools & Hardware Town”. Together with the earlier “China Mattress Fabric Town”, the town holds three national-level titles.

On scale, Yiqiao’s hardware sales reached 5.8 billion RMB in 2012, accounting for 48.5% of the town’s total industrial sales, with more than 500 hardware firms exporting to over 80 countries and regions. A 2024 report showed the two leading industries — hardware machinery and mattress fabric — generating average annual output of about 20 billion RMB, with 1.906 billion RMB in value-added output from above-scale industry. The town hosts more than 2,200 enterprises, including 89 above-scale industrial firms and 91 national high-tech enterprises. Above-scale industrial output is expected to exceed 10 billion RMB in 2025.
The product matrix is decidedly industrial: chair bases, chair trays, five-star bases, office furniture fittings, escalator chains, chainsaw chains, precision bearings, socket tools, digital measuring tools, trailer balls, vernier calipers, and stamped and cast parts for automobiles, washing machines and lighting. Yiqiao ranks first in Asia for swivel-chair hardware output, first in China for chains and socket tools, and among the national leaders in digital measuring tools, trailer balls and vernier calipers.
Among leading firms, Zhongtai Industrial is the anchor. Founded in 1994 from a near-bankrupt township collective enterprise, it has focused solely on chair bases for more than three decades. It now offers 7 series and over 1,000 models, produces 18 million sets annually, exports to more than 80 countries and regions, and holds 25% of the national market — making it one of Asia’s largest and the world’s largest chair-base factories. Output surpassed 1 billion RMB in 2021, with nearly 60,000 bases rolling off the line daily; each base must pass 300,000 repeated load tests, and customers include IKEA and Walmart. Yangshi Industrial specializes in swivel-chair trays; more than 200 tray models have passed US BIFMA, Australian AFRDI, UK FIRA and Italian-specific tests, and are sold to over 20 countries and regions. Its trays were selected for the G20 summit leaders’ chairs, and the company obtained IATF16949 certification in 2023 with more than 100 patents. Yongli Baihe, founded in 1995, makes industrial chains with 1,200 employees and annual sales of 400–450 million RMB, exporting to Europe, the US, South America and Southeast Asia; its escalator chain, precision bearing and chainsaw chain projects have relocated back to Yiqiao with total investment exceeding 200 million RMB. Huafeng Jujian focuses on mid-to-high-end hand tools, is a leading domestic socket developer and a principal drafter of national standards, with products exported to Europe and the US.
Supporting capacity is Yiqiao’s hidden strength. The town has nearly 8,000 mu of industrial parks and a 120,000 ㎡ provincial hardware machinery science and innovation park, while the Yongli Baihe intelligent manufacturing park holds 116,000 ㎡ of existing factory space. Moulding, casting, stamping, injection moulding, welding, coating, assembly, packaging and logistics can all be sourced locally. From 2021 to 2025, R&D spending as a share of revenue among above-scale firms rose from 2.9% to about 4%. The Shidai elevated road runs through the town, the Ring Expressway has a Yiqiao exit, Xiaoshan Airport is about half an hour away, and the town also has the Xinba ship lock and Yiqiao operation-area wharf.
Export is routine. By the 2013 designation, more than 500 hardware firms were already selling to over 80 countries and regions; today Zhongtai, Yangshi and Yongli Baihe serve customers across Europe, the US, the Middle East, Australia, South America and Southeast Asia. Office chair brands, tool importers, hardware chains, auto-parts buyers and industrial OEMs are the most typical buyers here. Yiqiao does not compete on low prices; it competes on having stamping, machining, surface treatment and assembly all within one town, enabling fast sampling, fast design changes and stable batch production.
For overseas buyers, Yiqiao suits OEM/ODM orders for office furniture hardware, chair bases and trays, chains, socket wrenches, measuring tools, trailer balls and stamped/cast parts. Customization is practical: mould-making from drawings or samples, material and surface-treatment changes, resizing, logo printing and designated packaging are all negotiable. Factory audits should focus on three points: which processes — stamping, injection moulding, machining, welding, coating, assembly — are in-house versus outsourced; whether ISO9001, IATF16949, BIFMA/EN 1335, salt-spray and fatigue test reports are complete; and whether EU REACH/RoHS and US coating/heavy-metal requirements have test support. Confirm the actual production address first, then discuss small-batch trial production, and write test standards and delivery terms into the contract — that is more worthwhile than pressing for the lowest price.
